Jon Thames joins the McGuire Fine Arts team
Long-time business owner Jon Thames, previously of Thames Gallery, has opted to come out of retirement and move back to Frederick to join the McGuire Fine Arts Gallery staff. Everyone is very excited to have such talent and enthusiasm on the team and look forward to a great future together.
With an extensive background in art, education and conservation framing, Jon brings a lot of experience to the group. He’s been active in the arts for over 35 years; an assistant professor at Northern Illinois University, Chicago Art Institute and North Texas University, opened Thames Fine Art Gallery and Framing in Mt. Airy Maryland in 1985 and opened his downtown Frederick location a few years later. The presence on Patrick Street was powerful, becoming one of the top-selling P Buckley Moss galleries in the country along with a major location for other artists such as Harry and Barry Richardson, Greenwich and Cheryl Summers. Thames custom framing also became very well-known and sought after by people from miles around. In 2006 the Mt. Airy location was closed, and in 2009 he opted to enter retirement and close the downtown Frederick location as well to pursue his other life loves—fly fishing, cooking, travel and creating his own artwork.
"I came out of retirement in the summer of 2010 to join David and his staff at McGuire Fine Arts. I look forward to seeing my good friends and clients in Frederick again. To those who ask why I came out of retirement, 'Dave made me an offer I could not refuse.' I really enjoy the direction they are going in and am thrilled to be a part of it."
